Outdoor Vision Fest® 2016 is in the books. The annual event that I co-founded in 2011 and have produced ever since attracted 3500-3800 people to Santa Fe University of Art and Design‘s campus on a chilly (and rain-threatening) Spring evening (April 29) — this in a city of 80,000.
Since its beginning, OVF® has highlighted the cutting-edge creativity of undergraduate media work — exploring device interaction with audiences, projection mapping, wrapping video around sculpture, motion graphics, experimental films, animation, collaborative media creations, and more. My incredible colleagues over the years — Brad Wolfley, Tom Miller, Dae In Chung, Susan York, Jocelyne Danchick, Jason Goodyear, Stephen Lee and others — have helped in mentoring students and creating one of the premiere single-night events in Santa Fe. OVF alumni have embarked on careers in film and television, graphic design, marketing and media messaging, urban re-imaginings, and more.
Next stops for OVF: Currents New Media; the Lea County Center for the Arts in Hobbs, New Mexico; and Fantase Fest (where the “OVF Collective” has secured another commission to create an exciting new installation underwritten by New Mexico Arts).
