Outdoor Vision Fest® 2017 Media Tour Commences

I’ll be guesting on “The Richard Eeds Show” (KVSF, 101.5FM, “the Voice of Santa Fe”) this Friday, April 7, at 9am MDT — to kick off 2017’s Outdoor Vision Fest (OVF) OVF2017Postermedia tour. This is the 7th year of OVF, and I’m thrilled to again be executive-producing the event (which I’ve done since co-founding it in 2011), working with Santa Fe University of Art and Design faculty colleagues Brad Wolfley, Tom Miller, Jason Goodyear and others.

In 2016 we attracted some 3800 attendees to the campus for an exciting night of cutting-edge media installations, 100% created by undergraduate students. This year we’re hoping to do even better — and we’re bringing in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality (via the Blippar app, available on iOS and Android — download today!) and other new media toys to further enhance the OVF experience.

OVF® 2017 — Coming Soon!

Outdoor Vision Fest® (OVF) began with a core belief that contemporary media students needed to think beyond single-channel media and explore cutting-edge technologies that enabled audience interaction with — and immersion in — moving-image experiences and environments.

2017 — Here We Are

And like that, it’s 2017. Safe to say we can expect the unexpected in the coming 12 months…

Borst-classroom-2016.JPGIn the meantime, I continue my professorship at The Film School at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. During the Fall semester, the 5th season of our flagship initiative — Shoot the Stars!®concluded principal photography, and I produced the last of our Season 4 promos spotlighting the films’ student producers.  In the midst of the semester, I headed to the Big Apple to speak on a panel at the All American High School Film Festival about breaking into the entertainment business.

Outdoor Vision Fest® — which I continue to executive produce — heads towards its 6th iteration on April 28, 2017 (put it on your calendar and plan to attend if you’re in northern New Mexico).

A couple of new projects are underway and under wraps … details to come in the months ahead—

Get a Glimpse of “Membrane”

For the past two years, I’ve been producing media installations underwritten by New Mexico Arts, and debuting during the annual Fantase Fest, an initiative of Creative Santa Fe. These installations are an outgrowth of Santa Fe University of Art and Design‘s Outdoor Vision Fest, an annual event which I co-founded and have been executive-producing since 2011.

Outdoor Vision Forever

Around May 20, a student said to me: “Enjoying the summer so far?” Implicit in the question is that professors — the moment they turn in grades (and maybe right after their last lecture) — bask on a tropical beach, or putter about gardening, or … maybe just twiddle their thumbs waiting for the next semester to start.

Outdoor Vision Fest® – Best of Santa Fe

BOSF2016logoFor the second year in a row, readers of the Santa Fe Reporter have nominated Outdoor Vision Fest® as “Best (Event or Festival) of Santa Fe.” Now readers are selecting the winner for the category — and I would love anyone reading this to head on over to this webpage, and cast your vote for OVF® as “Best (Event or Festival).”

It seems a tad unfair that OVF is pitted against multi-day and sometimes multi-week festivals — and I would point out that the only other one-night-only event nominated in this category is the annual burning of Zozobra, which has been going on for nearly a century. (Environmental and safety note: we don’t burn anything at OVF.)

OVF® 2016 Is In The Books

ovf_logoOutdoor Vision Fest® 2016 is in the books. The annual event that I co-founded in 2011 and have produced ever since attracted 3500-3800 people to Santa Fe University of Art and Design‘s campus on a chilly (and rain-threatening) Spring evening (April 29) — this in a city of 80,000.

My colleague Professor Tom Miller and I spend an hour with host Kathryn Davis, discussing Outdoor Vision Fest® and its impact on Santa Fe’s art scene, along with providing verbal snapshots of some of the nearly 50 installations debuting this April 29.

OVF2016 & New Mexico Film Works

NMFO-Black-Square(1)_300_200_c1I’ll be guesting on “New Mexico Film Works” — KVSF 101.5FM’s and the New Mexico Film Office‘s weekly radio broadcast on news and events involving the local film and media industries — to discuss Outdoor Vision Fest® 2016 with host Belle Allen this Wednesday, April 27, at 11am (the segment is actually anticipated to start around 11:25).

We’ll focus specifically on how OVF® relates to New Mexico’s film biz and why local filmmakers and film crew should be coming out to the one-night-only event on April 29.

If you’re not in the local broadcast area, or if you just hate radios, you can (of course) live-stream the broadcast here.
